Romiley Lodge No. 4976
Romiley Lodge has through individual contributions at meetings and collective efforts over
the years, been recognised for its support of Masonic Charities. In most recent times, it
became Presidential Grand Patron – 2005 Cheshire Festival for Masonic Trust for Girls & Boys.
It has also earned recognition, as a Patron of Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution, Royal Masonic
Benevolent Institute – Cheshire Festival, Masonic Trust for Girls & Boys, The New Samaritan Fund
and Cheshire Fund of Benevolence.
Nationally
Freemasons are the largest benefactors to public Charity outside of the National Lottery. Mostly, this is rarely reported in the
media. Nevertheless, the prime concern remains to ensure financial relief for those in need.

Locally
In 2005, 46 grants were made by way of disbursement of funds from the Province of Cheshire to non-Masonic Charities totalling £52,200.
[See the Cheshire Masons web site for full details]
In 2006, an amount of £70,000 was provided by the Province, for the benefit of local Charities.
At Tameside Hospital, Freemasons fund the Tender Loving Care scheme (TLC Teddies). Every child attending A&E, or who is ill in hospital will receive a teddy bear, to help at a most difficult time. Local groups have benefited such as Riding for the Disabled, Scouts, Prostate Cancer Charities, plus support generally for Cancer Patients and their relatives
The Lodge Almoner
The role of Almoner is extremely important. Members care about the health & general well-being of each other. During periods of ill-health and other difficulties, the Almoner will endeavour to offer practical help and comfort.
Members who are sick, or infirm will be contacted by the Almoner. He will keep in touch too with Lodge Widows.
